I knew during the first stages as I created this piece, that there was an uncontrollable desire to truly connect with people on a level I did not yet understand. As I began to build the frame, stretch, staple the canvas, and prime I tried to figure out how I was going to connect. What was it that I kept feeling, why were these wild deep emotions swirling inside me? 

The moment came when I got the phone call from my mother telling me that she was diagnosed with Stage 3C Ovarian Cancer. Instantly, I knew what these emotions were. 

I needed to create a piece that I could feel the pain. Allow the raw darkness to swirl and linger. BUT and the most important part was creating a path of light and strength to get me out of those dark feelings. Life has moments were it shifts out of our control and we are left standing there trying to pick up the pieces. My hope for this piece is that it is a pillar of strength. Seeing the raw emotion splashed across the canvas I hope can offer the ability to feel strength within your darkness. You are not alone. Strength is within you.

Visual inspiration: Hot springs in Yellowstone, rock formations, cracked cement, water damaged walls, water ripples, peeling paint. The reason I chose to focus on these types of raw organic forms. Was to help me achieve the wild raw emotions I felt during this creation process. Much love, S
